I’d been having contractions nightly for over a week, so when my contractions started at 7 that night, I didn’t think anything of it. I fell asleep around 10, and woke up at 12 to pee. While I was in the bathroom, I had a stronger contraction then usual, but brushed it off. When I wiped, I noticed there was blood! That got me pretty excited. I let my husband know, and within about 5 mins had another stronger contraction. They still weren’t painful, but they were different. By 1 I had him call his grandma, mom, and aunt and let them know what was going on. We told them it could be an hour, it could be 24, we couldn’t tell. They were all here by 130 🙂
At this point I could still talk through my contractions. When his aunt came over I was sitting on the porch drinking coffee and laughing through my contractions! We headed inside and I got on my birth ball for the next contraction. While bouncing I felt a pop, and prayed it wasn’t my water! (We just had new carpets installed a week ago, I was so worried I was going to stain them!) sure enough, it was my water, and things really started to pick up speed.
I got into the bathtub around 215, and was suddenly hit with contraction after contraction. They were less then a min apart and horribly strong. At about 250, they all but stopped. I remember thinking it was the “rest and be thankful” stage. I was able to zone out during my next few contractions. Thankfully my husbands aunt was with me because I whispered “she’s coming”, and she ran to get my husband. My next contraction hit and he said, “not yet, but soon”. Everyone was confused but didn’t say anything. At the start of my next contraction my voice and posture changed and he knew it was time.
This was the first labor I have had that it felt like my hips were being ripped apart as I was pushing. I have never felt a pain like that before! With one push her head was out and I had to rest a few seconds because I thought my hips were breaking. Second push and she popped right out. My husband grabbed her and handed her to me. She was finally here!!
We spent about 5 mins in the tub, and when I went to get out we realized her cord was to short to climb out and down the stairs. He had woken our oldest up by this point and she wanted to cut the cord so I managed to get to the toilet. We clamped it and explained what to do, but she was to scared of hurting the baby, and was still convinced that I was going to have another baby because my belly was still big.
After my husband cut the cord, I stood up and my placenta fell out!! Our biggest concern was a retained placenta so that really helped ease our minds.
All in all, I labored for about 4 hours. I feel great, but the after pains are horrible!
I found out last night that when her was was born she was facing sideways. I’m not sure if that had to do with my hip pain or not, but I’m pretty sure it did.
